Nightingale (RN only) and Regional LPN Award Frequently Asked Questions
- When and where is the 2012 Centennial AHEC Regional Nightingale Event?
The 2012 Nightingale Event will be held at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Loveland on Friday evening, March 9th, 2012. Invitations are available here.
- Are nominations limited to only Registered Nurses?
- The regional and statewide Nightingale nominations are limited to RNs
- Centennial AHEC’s Regional LPN Excellence in Human Caring Award is limited to LPNs
Nomination forms are different so be sure to submit the appropriate RN or LPN nomination form and accompanying documents.
- How do I nominate a Registered Nurse for the Nightingale Luminary Award or a LPN for the Regional LPN Excellence in Human Caring Award?
There are two different steps that must be completed in order to nominate a Registered Nurse for the Nightingale Luminary Award (regional level) or a LPN for the Regional Award. The 1st step is submitting the “Nomination Form”. This form gives us the basic information about your nominee including what category they are nominated in. The 2nd step is submitting the proper nomination documents. These documents are:
- 500-word Nomination Essay (Written by nominator)
- 2 Letters of Recommendation (Written by peers, supervisors, clients/patients, etc.)
A nomination form, 500-word nomination essay and 2 letters of recommendation are required for both the RN and LPN nomination. You can find the nomination form, guidelines, and directions on how to upload your documents here for RNs and here for LPNs.
Registered Nurses selected as Luminaries from their region are then considered by the State Selection Committee for receipt of a Nightingale Award. The Nightingale Awards are announced at the state event in Denver on May 19th, 2012.
- What are the Nightingale Nomination Categories?
The Luminaries (regional level) and the Nightingale Award Recipients (state level) will be in two categories:
Category I: Nurses in Clinical Practice
Category II: Administrators, Educators, Researchers, and Non-Traditional Practice Roles
Areas of Recognition in EACH Category will be:
Advocacy – advancing a cause or proposal
Leadership – motivating others to work toward a common goal
Innovation – demonstrating creativity which addresses today’s challenges/opportunities
- Can I nominate a Registered Nurse in more than one category and/or area of recognition? What about LPN categories?
No. You must choose only one category and one area of recognition for RNs. We understand that great RNs embody qualities from each category, however, please focus on the category and ONE area of recognition you select. (This is where knowing the nominee comes in handy. They can help show you where their biggest strengths lie.)
LPN nominations have only one category and one area of recognition: Human Caring.
- How do I submit the nomination form and nomination documents?
You can easily submit the nomination form and the nomination documents here [there wil be the link here when it's ready].
- Does the nominee have to submit an essay or any other paperwork?
No. In previous years, the nominee has been required to write their own personal essay, but they are no longer required to do so. However, we highly recommend working with and/or interviewing the nominee while writing your essay to help exemplify the qualities of the nurse you are nominating.
- Can I nominate more than one nurse?
Yes, you can nominate more than one nurse.
- How long do I have to submit a nomination?
The FINAL deadline for submitting all nomination documents will be January 15, 2012.
- What happens if I do not submit my nomination documents in time; will the nurse still be nominated?
No. In order for a nurse to be recognized as a nominee, the nomination form and ALL nominations documents must be submitted by the final deadline.
