Career Fairs
Many high schools in the counties served by CAHEC host career fairs to introduce students to new career
opportunities. During the 2009 - 2010 school years, CAHEC will participate in several such events.
In addition to sponsoring a booth or making a presentation at these fairs, arrangements are made when possible
to have students from the University of Colorado School of Medicine or School of Pharmacy participate. This
opportunity not only provides hands-on activities such as suturing, but a service learning opportunity for
medical students who supervise and teach the activity. These fairs are also an excellent opportunity to
encourage participation in the Summer Health Careers Institute and
to promote the availability of publications such as the Colorado Health Careers
publication and the availability of the Scholarship and Financial Aid for Health Professions directory.
HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is a student organization for those who are
pursuing or interested in pursuing a career in the health field. Many HOSA members are enrolled
in a Health Science program at the secondary or post-secondary level. Colorado HOSA hosts two
annual events: Fall Leadership Conference and State Leadership Conference. HOSA also boasts
over 57 Competitive Events for students’ participation. Two active HOSA chapters in the CAHEC
Region are located at Morgan Community College and Northeastern Junior College. CAHEC supports
HOSA by participating in regional and statewide HOSA activities, such as serving as a volunteer
judge at the Colorado State HOSA Leadership Conference in the spring.
