Colorado Conversations
An important initiative related to CAHEC’s mission is to play a role in educating community leaders regarding
critical health care issues. CAHEC wants to empower and encourage local leaders to take an active interest in
influencing issues (advocacy) that affect access to health care in their communities.
Colorado Conversations is a series of presentations delivered in communities throughout CAHEC’s
region to raise awareness on health care issues. This initiative is generously funded through a
grant by The Colorado Trust Foundation, whose vision is achieving affordable health coverage for
all Colorado families and individuals..Currently, CAHEC focuses on three topics:
Workforce Health Care Shortages
Health Care Advocacy
Language Barriers and the Problems of the Uninsured
In addition to educating and raising awareness, these presentations utilize polling devices to anonymously
collect feedback of participants on such topics to better assist CAHEC in following up. Part of CAHEC’s
follow-up activities to these presentations is to provide assistance to individuals and groups on how to
actively have an impact on these issues within the public and private sector.
When possible, CAHEC partners with and taps the resources of other groups in the region such as The Progressive
15 a public advocacy group that lobbies for rural issues that affect 15 northeastern Colorado counties including
those served by CAHEC. Presentation content is often available through groups such as the Colorado Progressive Coalition,
recently completed a study on language barriers to health care.
Groups interested in arranging such a presentation are encouraged to contact Sally Henry, Executive Director of
CAHEC, 970-330-3608, or shenry@cahec.org.
