  Colorado AHEC System

The University of Colorado’s (CU) Health Science Center serves as the System Office for Colorado’s 30–year old AHEC Program. The System Office works in partnership with the Centers and serves as the conduit for many academic-community activities, coordinates student programs and serves as fiscal agent for state and federal funding.

In turn, Centennial AHEC is one of five community-based non-profit centers that provide health workforce services throughout Colorado in collaboration with the AHEC System Office, other Centers and local partners.

There are some 55 AHEC Programs nationally with over 200 Centers. Serving virtually every state, the District of Columbia and selected Pacific Island, AHECs have made major impacts since their establishment by Congress in 1971.

Nationally, the AHEC mission is to enhance access to quality health care, particularly primary and preventive care, by improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals through community/academic educational partnerships.

The Colorado AHEC system and the Colorado Centers are all members of the National AHEC Organization.
