TITLE: TRANSFORMING CLINICAL PLACEMENT PROCESS THROUGH COLLABORATION
Does the thought of finding clinical placements for nursing students give you nightmares? Is Is there fighting or disagreement among schools and agencies on how to best handle student placements? The presentation will provide an up-to-date look at the growth in the partnership among 38 agencies and 35 schools and how collaboration has “raised the bar and expectations” around the student placement process.

SPEAKER: Deborah Center, MSN, RN, CNS, Project Director, Clinical Placement Pilot Project-Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence
Ms.Center’s role is to facilitate the “2 Year Pilot Project” for the development of a web-based clinical placement system in Colorado. The project is a collaborative effort, bringing both clinical practice and education to the table to develop strategies across the state to increase the capacity for nursing education.

TITLE: CLINICALLY A, B, C, OR “D”: DEALING WITH THE CLINICALLY DEFICIENT OR AT RISK FOR FAILURE STUDENTS
Are they clinically “D” deficient? Regardless of the cause, students need to be able to critically think, apply knowledge, and be prepared to function safely in the role, while meeting the highest standards. This session will discuss how to improve and evaluate student success and deficiencies in clinical!

SPEAKER: Janet Tompkins McMahaon, MSN, RN
Ms. McMahon is a consultant and national speaker for continuing education programs on a variety of subject. She has expertise on clinical evaluation of students and mentoring of nursing faculty. She is currently an Associate Professor Nursing at Florence Darlington Technical College in Florence, South Carolina.

TITLE: A LOOK AT THE NEW NLNAC ACCREDITATION STANDARDS AND CRITERIA
This session will include information about the NLNAC accreditation processes and practices including a review of the new 2008 Standards and Criteria. The focus will be on quality enhancement of nursing education programs through continuous self-assessment and planning. Additionally, the session will include a discussion of compliance in the contest of the program’s mission and setting.

SPEAKER: Sharon J. Tanner, EdD, RN
Dr. Tanner is the Executive Director of the NLNAC in New York City. Her primary research focus has been related to accountability policies and practices in higher education. Dr. Tanner is a recognized leader in nursing education with experience in all types of programs as both a faculty member and administrator.

Dr. Tagliareni has played a key role in fostering innovation and in promoting the nurse educator role as an advanced practice role. As the chair of the Independence Foundation in Community Health Nursing Education, an endowed faculty position pursuing identification of student learning needs which evolve from emerging community heath issues and the development of linkages with community-based helath services and other schools of nursing in Philadelphia

TOPIC: “STRONGER PARTNERSHIPS TO TRANSFORM CURRICULUM”
The purpose of this conversation is to set the stage to develop nursing curriculum models that address strong partnerships between and education. We will examine underlying assumptions and mental models of nursing education in light of current models. New ideas and innovative strategies will be generated will be generated as we lay the foundation for rethinking and reshaping the undergraduate and graduate nursing curriculum.

Dr. Heinrich is an award winning educator, prolific author, and popular speaker. One of the pioneers in researching incivility in nursing education, she has gathered the stories of hundreds of nurses that will how their joy has been stolen on-the-job and what to do about it. After 25 years of teaching in RN-BSN, master’s and doctoral programs at three universities, she opened KTH Consulting. Dr. Heinrich helps nursing groups turn health care and academic setting into zestful workplaces. Her psycho-educational-relational approach engages audiences and entices readers.
